Adobe Photoshop’s Save for Web feature is very useful – you can get a fine balance between file size and image quality, that few other apps can match. I use it all the time for images for articles on this site.
One problem I have always encountered when using Save for Web feature is, Photoshop automatically shortens file names with more than 31 characters. Turns out, there is a way to turn off this annoying behaviour of shortening names. This file name truncate is actually used for Mac OS 9 compatibility, so if your images will ever be used on OS 9, do not turn off truncating.
Below are the steps to prevent Photoshop from deleting characters from the end of your filename:
Create or open any file. Select File -> Save for Web. In the window that comes up, click the little pull down arrow / circle next to “Preset”, then click Edit Output Settings.

Switch to Saving Files Under Filename Compatibilty, uncheck Max OS 9. Click Save.

I hope that helped. If you have any doubts, ask in comments below.
